She was different from other actresses! Meanwhile, in America’s Parliament of Religions, Pratap Chandra Majumdar noticed a saint in bright orange robes and a huge turban. Who was this unusual young man, and whom did he represent?

নয়নমণি নামে এক নতুন অভিনেত্রী একরাতের ‘লেডি ম্যাকবেথ’ চরিত্রের অভিনয় করে কলকাতার রঙ্গমঞ্চে ঝড় তুলে দিয়েছে। কিন্তু তিনকড়ি দাসী ফিরে এসে তার পার্ট আবার ফিরিয়ে নিল। মেনে নিল নয়নমণি। বিনা তর্কে। কোন ধাতুতে গড়া এই মেয়ে? এ তো আর পাঁচজন নটীর মত নয়!
ওদিকে আমেরিকার ধর্মমহাসভায় এক নতুন সাধুকে দেখে প্রতাপচন্দ্র মজুমদার অবাক। অন্য ভারতীয়রাও এই অচেনা ব্যক্তিটিকে লক্ষ করেছেন। অন্য সকলেই মাটি, বা খয়েরি ধরনের চাপা রঙের পোশাক পরে এসেছেন, আর এই লোকটার গায়ে একটা ক্যাটকেটে কমলা রঙের হাঁটু পর্যন্ত ঢোলা আলখালা, কোমরে কোমরবন্ধ, মাথায় ওই রঙেরই এক বিরাট পাগড়ি। অদ্ভুত পোশাকে কে এই যুবক? কাদের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে?
