অপূর্ব সুন্দরী মাথিল্ড্ অসুখী তার অতি সাধারণ জীবন নিয়ে। সে স্বপ্ন দেখে প্রাচুর্য্যের। তার চাহিদার কাছে কম পড়ে যায় তার স্বামী মঁসিও লোয়াসেলের ভালোবাসাও। তারপর একদিন আসে লোয়াসেলের অফিসের বড়কর্তার বল-ড্যান্স পার্টিতে যাওয়ার আমন্ত্রণ। সেখানে সেজে যাওয়ার জন্য মাথিল্ড্ কী করে? তার সাজের প্রশংসা পাওয়ার পরেও সে এমন কী হারায় যাতে লোয়াসেল দম্পতির জীবনে নেমে আসে চরম দুর্দিন?
