The film opens with a wedding ceremony in Howrah where Ajoy and Monica meet. Ajoy comes from a poverty striken family and dreams of earning a large amount of money. He tries his luck at busniess to produce voltameters and galvanometers with Fani babu. As Ajoy's relationship with Monica who comes from a rich family deepens, he presents himself as an affluent busniessman. He borrows a flat and a car from his friend, Satyen and says that he owns them. Trouble starts when Fani babu fails to deliver the machines and orders start getting cancelled. A repentant Ajay goes to Monica's house to confess but is ordered out by both Monica and her father. As Ajay leaves the house, Monica looks out from the window.
