আমরা দু'জন (১৯৮৪)

Working family planning messages into this format is not difficult. The result: since 1984 over 10 million people have seen Amra Dujon (Together).

This film is produced in the populist and popular melodramatic morality-tale style, so beloved of audiences in Bangladesh. In this case, the message underlying the drama promotes birth control policies. The hero and heroine realize the physical and economic strain of having a large family and eventually decide that they should "wait a while before starting their family". This decision is made at the suggestion of the local radio family planning question and answer program, at which point the couple breaks into a love song sequence emphasizing that they must make decisions and build their lives together.

Produced by John Riber and directed by Alamgir Kabir.

Thanks to Cor Draijer for transferring from 16mm to digital format.
