Synopsis:::
Bansari' is the story of Kusum. An aged teacher narrates to her students the story of an illiterate village girl Kusum. Kusum never cared to learn to read and write despite her parents' efforts. After the untimely demise of her father she was living an ordinary life with her widowed mother Indu and aunt Sodu. She goes for her cousin's wedding and there she meets Ananda, a jovial person. Ananda and Kusum get married. But, Ananda has to leave for his job after marriage and Kusum comes back to her village. The village men accuse Indu of using her daughter for flesh trade under the guise of getting her married. They are separated from the village. Sodu and Gosai are the only people who support them. Indu sells her house, land and cows so that she can go with her son-in-law when he comes. Kusum gets a letter from Assam where her husband works but she is unable to read it. No one reads the letter for her. Ananda doesn't turn up on the schedule day and the villagers decide to throw Indu and Kusum out of the village. Kusum produces her husband's letter. It is revealed that Ananda had died after a mishap. Kusum is shattered. She realizes the importance of education and learns to read and write. The aged teacher is no one else but Kusum who teaches her students about the importance of education.
